Marital Fatigue

Marital fatigue is one of the psychological disturbances that gradually diminishes love and affection between spouses, ultimately leading to mental, emotional, and relational problems, culminating in their formal divorce.

Today, the prevalence of marital fatigue has increased significantly, with 50 percent of couples facing it in their marriages, and marital fatigue is prevalent in marital relationships that end in divorce.

Fatigue begins with growing awareness and attention to things that are no longer as pleasant as they once were. If preventative measures are not taken at this stage to halt the progression of this process, everything worsens from bad to worse, and the relationship may ultimately collapse. In fact, spouses realize that their partner’s behavior is not what they expected, and after experiencing this sense of disappointment, they compare their partner before and after marriage.

Such comparisons contribute to relational problems such as failure to express needs, desires, and interests; lack of affection; cessation of intimate communication; frequent conflicts; repeated criticism; resorting to silence; lack of emotional support; and unresolved issues, leading to long-term negative emotions and ultimately to loss of initial enthusiasm, emotional dependence, commitment, and ultimately, the emergence of fatigue.
